Joe was born on April 20th, 1954, in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Joseph and Virginia Urchell (nee Maynard). Joseph attended high school at Harper High. After high school, he worked as an auto mechanic, and as a truck driver for 38 years. He retired from Osco Oil Company in 2017 and was well regarded by everyone from his Teamsters Union brothers to the customers he serviced alike.
Joe married Valerie Freiberg on October 27, 1984, and they were together for 40 years. They had two children, Joseph Richard Urchell Jr. and Nicole Marie Urchell.
Joe was an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast. His 1940 Ford Businessman’s Coupe was by far his most prized car, and his Harley Davidson Motorcycles were much enjoyed into his retirement. Joe was also a Chicago Blackhawks fan, enjoying many hockey games on television and in person with his family. He loved Western movies and television shows and could answer almost any inquiry about actors and trivia. Joe was a master of his Weber grill, always ready to cook a burger, a steak, or an Italian sausage, and enjoyed meals with his family. Throughout his life, Joe was fond of any project or undertaking which involved his technical skills, and you could often find him engulfed in a household project, or under the hood of his car.
Joe is survived by his wife Valerie Urchell, his children Joseph Urchell Jr, and Nicole Urchell, his sister Sharon White, brother Edward Urchell, and sister-in-law, Trudi Urchell. Joe was a very beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed by all.
