

William Karopulos, age 95, passed away on June 9, 2024. Loving husband of Irene Karopulos, the couple enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Father of John (Kathy), Nick (Karrie), grandfather of Tiana, Gino, Irena and William, brother to departed sisters Mary (Bill) Stefanu and Helen (Lou) Malevitis, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
William was born in Chicago, IL on December 7, 1928. After graduating from Tilden Technical High School he attended Washburn Trade School, Coyne Electrical School and Chicago Technical College. William enrolled in the Illinois Institute of Technology Engineering Program. The Korean War broke out and he was drafted into the U.S. Army. As a Sergeant, he was assigned the duty of teaching recruits the care and usage of infantry weapons. After completing his tour of duty, William joined the pipefitters union and spent his entire career in the pipefitters trade doing maintenance and repairs to refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment.
William found great joy in being a devoted member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. He loved being involved and volunteering for whatever was needed. William was proud to be on the committee for the design, construction and development of St. Nicholas. He served as a board member and President for many years. He was also a leader in several community organizations, also volunteered at the Orland Park Historical Museum. William was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed traveling, golfing, and fishing.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 10-11am, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Oak Lawn, where a Funeral Service will follow at 11 am. Interment will conclude at Evergreen Cemetery.
