Bernard Andrew Hendricks was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 3, 1925 to parents Bernard Moses and Marie Casteel Hendricks. He was called "Buddy" as a child and used the nickname "Bud" his entire life.
Bud graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1943. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Navy entering Aviation Radioman training and became one of the Air Crewmen on SB2C Helldiver dive bombers.
After discharge, Bud studied vocal music performance for a year at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas where he met his future wife Arlene. Changing direction, Bud enrolled in a TV and radio broadcast engineering program where he completed an engineering bachelor's degree. Employment included three years at fledgling TV station KTVH in Hutchinson, Kansas, four years at Bendix Aviation missile systems in North Hollywood, California and then the remainder of his career at ABC Television in Hollywood.
In 1987, Bud and Arlene retired to Oceanside where they enjoyed hiking, bicycling and traveling the world together. Bud and Arlene had been married 57 years when Arlene passed away in 2005. During recent years, Bud was cared for by Anadela Vukov and Misa Arsenijevic whose tireless sacrifices and loving hard work made it possible for Bud to stay safely and comfortably in his own home.
Bud passed away on April 14, 2016. He is survived by daughters Sheryl Phillips (husband Glenn Phillips), Deanne Hendricks and Jana Hendricks, granddaughter Kelsey Loyd, grandson Allen Loyd, great-granddaughter Ava Rose Loyd and nieces Phyllis Cansler, Patty Brockner and Leslie Davis. Flowers or donations can be sent to Vista United Methodist Church.
