Betty Jane is preceded to heaven by her husband of 50 years, Bruce Webb Nunnally; her mother, Ann Kube Porter; and her father; Walter Thomas Porter. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann Bussey of Oceanside (husband Ron) and two grandchildren, Kathryn and Robert.
Betty Jane was born March 19, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, and soon moved to Geneva, IL as a young child. She then lived in Seattle, Washington with her family, until she married her USMC sweetheart. She became a talented pianist, very active in her church, and attended the University of Washington, studying business.
Betty Jane and her husband, Bruce, were transferred to California in 1963, and spent most of the next 50 years living in Oceanside, CA. She spent 25 of those years working for the Oceanside Unified School District in a variety of positions, as she believed in the importance of education. She especially enjoyed working as part of the ROP team at the Instructional Resource Center.
Betty Jane was a long time member of King of Kings Lutheran Church and the Oceanside Emblem Club. In her later years, she found enormous pleasure in sharing with her grandchildren in their many great accomplishments.
Her memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 17th, at Eternal Hills Memorial Chapel in Oceanside, CA. Internment will follow in the Garden of the Last Supper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Betty Jane’s friendly smile, Christian heart, and positive spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Arrangements under the direction of Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary and Crematory, Oceanside, California.
