Dawn Beverly “Bev” Baker, 77, passed away on April 23, 2015 in Chico, California, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was born to Roger Walker and Theone Rousselow on September 4, 1937 in Oceanside, California. Bev grew up in Vista, graduated from Vista High in 1955, attended Palomar College, and earned a teaching credential from San Diego State.
She worked as an elementary school teacher at Light and Life Christian School in Escondido for several years. She then moved to the San Marcos Unified School District and retired in 1998 after 19 years of service. Teaching was a delight to her. She loved to watch students grasp new and challenging concepts.
Throughout her lifetime she was constantly learning, fascinated by history, maps, construction, animals, and current events. She was very interested in her family’s genealogy and had recently joined the Mayflower Society. Being in the mountains and camping were favorite pastimes. She loved to play card games, do puzzles, and watch football, especially her beloved Chargers. Most of all, she loved to be with her family, cheer them on in their activities, celebrate holidays together, and be of help in any way possible.
Bev loved the Lord and made her faith known to those around her. She attended Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido for 30 years. Her favorite Bible verse was 1 Corinthians 10:13, and she was a great prayer warrior for her family and community.
After living in North County for 65 years, she left the San Diego area to move closer to family in Oroville in 2005.
Bev is survived by her children, Dana (John) Johnston of Oroville, Doug (Paula) Baker of Lompoc, Darin (Jana) Baker of Portland, Oregon; her sister, Donea (Bob) Hedrick of Durham; her aunt Wilma Lusardi of San Marcos; plus 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 26, at 1:00 at Eternal Hills Chapel in Oceanside.
