Donald Ray Lloyd Sr. “Don” entered into this world February 11, 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas, to parents Archie and Minnie Lloyd. He has one younger sister, Linda Abel Lloyd. His early years were spent in Orange, Texas where he attended school ultimately graduating from high school in 1954. In 2004 he was able to attend his 50 year class reunion.
He began college after high school but soon left to serve our country with the Air Force. He was stationed in Hawaii and served between 1955-1959. He came back to Orange, Texas where he earned his Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering degree at Lamar University in 1962.
He began working for Hughes Aircraft Company upon graduation in 1962 where he was a field engineer, living in numerous states across the country. In God’s great plan this led him to meeting Eileen McCarthy in New York, who would become his wife of 35 years when she passed away in April of 2003. Don celebrated 30 years with Hughes before retiring to Carlsbad.
Don and Eileen had two children, Donald Lloyd Jr. and Pamela Lloyd. Don was heavily in the boy scouts with Don Jr. and there met lifelong friends or “the clan” as they were referred to . These friendships became more like family throughout the span of 40 years.
Don’s greatest joys involved anything to do with nature or food. He loved to garden, camp, and just watch the squirrels and birds in his back yard. He also loved to cook and entertain and many happy afternoons were spent with family and friends trying to recreate a favorite dish shared at a restaurant and finding new ways to serve it.
Don is survived by his sister, Linda Lloyd Abel, his children Donald Ray Lloyd Jr. and Pamela Sarah Lynne Staten, 5 grandchildren Craig Manigo Jr “CJ”, Kiara Manigo, Amber Lloyd, Joshua Lloyd, and Amanda Lloyd, and 1 great grand daughter, Lillian Rose Manigo.
