Don was born on April 21, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from St. Dominic Catholic School, joined the Marine Reserves, graduated from Villanova University with his Bachelor’s Degree, and later from Stony Brook University with his Master’s. He also contemplated priesthood and entered the seminary before he met the love of his life, Florence Ziegler. The two were married in 1967 and both served the community as teachers. The couple welcomed their children, Laura in 1969 and Lisa in 1972.
A lover of music and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, everyone who knew Don spoke of his kindness, compassion, humility, sense of humor, service to others and great faith.
After the untimely death of his wife, Don moved to Oceanside, CA and threw himself into service at The Mission San Luis Rey, where Florence was laid to rest. He volunteered as a docent, hospitality minister, extraordinary minister of holy communion, sacristan, and he sang in many of the church choirs.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Laura Tangredi and Lisa Mariella, their husbands, both named John, and grandchildren Johnny, Megan, Rachael, and Liliana. He is also survived by his four nephews, Larry, Steve, Bob and Doug and their families. He will be greatly missed.
