Donald Eugene Root

Donald Eugene Root “Don” or “grandpa” as he was known to his family, passed away on August 1, 2022 at the age of 87. Don was born on March 11, 1935 in Pullman Washington to Eugene Root and Leslie Ray. He received his bachelor’s degree of Mathematics at University of Washington. He married his beloved wife Elena Mula in Los Angeles in 1959. They relocated to Vista CA and had one child John Root. They were married until her passing in 1989.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. A man of few words who lived by the principle of family first. He put his family above all else and was kind and generous in thoughts and his time.

Usually seen with a cup of coffee in his hand, Don had a passion for his work and was working at General Dynamics at the time of his passing. He excelled and was well known in his field and credited with outstanding work on many important projects. He previously worked at CSC and General Atomics. He loved to read, watch Western movies and spend time gardening. Don also had an affinity for Dilbert comics as he could often be seen smiling when reading them.

He is survived by his brother Roger Root and his family, son John Root, grandchildren Alexandra Root, Thomas Root, David Root, Matthew Root and James Root as well as great granddaughter Cassandra Deanda.

An informal gravesite service will be held on August 29th. A celebration of life for Don will be held at a later date for all his many friends, coworkers and family.
