Katie Ruth Ferguson was born on November 29, 1930, in Jonesboro, Louisiana to Olen Satcher and Queen Ester Johnson. She became a stepdaughter when her Mother married Reverend John W Morrison in 1952. She attended High School in Jonesboro and later attended college.
Katie was married to her one true love, Frederick Ferguson, for over 66 years. They had four children, Kathryn, Marinea, Frances and Eric. Frederick was in the Marine Corps, stationed in Vallejo, CA; Honolulu, HI and Oceanside, CA, where they resided for over 53 years.
She worked at Deutsch in Oceanside for 30 years but her main job was being the head of the household. She always made sure each family member received a card on his or her birthday, even if it was a few days late.
With a diet comprised solely of Little Debbie snack cakes and caffeine free Diet Pepsi, its no surprise that Katie was the sweetest person around. While her husband was the main chef of the household, she was known for her special hot dog spaghetti and her classic potato salad.
Katie opened her heart and home to everyone. It was like Grand Central Station. She always treated you like you were one of her own. If you needed her, you could always find her sitting in her special chair wearing one of her signature muumuus.
The greatest joy of her life was her family and her happiest moments were the times she spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and cabbage patch kids. They meant the world to her. She was very fortunate that her family lived close and she would literally see them on a daily basis.
Katie called every member of her family nightly to check in, let them know that American Idol was about to start, and to warn them not to “give nobody no ride.” She was available 24/7. It didn’t matter if you called her at 3pm or 3am, she would always answer.
Katie is preceded in death by her Mother, Queen Ester Morrison, her father Olen Satcher; Brothers, Hugh Satcher and Charles Shirley Satcher, and daughter Kathryn Ferguson Sharpe.
Katie is survived by her Husband Frederick Ferguson, Daughters; Marinea Goodson (Michael) and Frances Ferguson; Son, Eric Ferguson (Yvonne), Grandchildren; Christopher Gray, Marcus Holt, Jason Owens (Anni), Marcel Owens, Erica and Katie Rose Ferguson; Great Grandchildren, Savannah and Alyssa Gray, Jordyn and Cassius Owens, Sister Venice Nixon and host of other relatives.
Katie was truly a blessing to all of us. She will be loved and missed dearly. Katie will continue to live on forever in our hearts.
