

Lawrence Paul Vasquez, Jr., lovingly known as Larry, of Carlsbad, California, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on September 6, 1943, in Oceanside, California, Larry was the son of Lawrence Paul Vasquez and Irene Ruth (Boessler) Vasquez. He spent his life deeply rooted in the community he loved and called home.
Larry graduated from Capistrano Union High School in 1962 and went on to earn an Associate of Science degree in drafting from MiraCosta Junior College in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Larry built a remarkable career spanning 43 years as a Journeyman Electrician at the Encina Power Plant in Carlsbad. Known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and skill, he took great pride in providing for his family and contributing to the community.
Above all else, Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 59 loving years of marriage with his wife, Kathleen A. Vasquez, and together they built a life centered on family, love, and unwavering support for one another. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the deep love he had for his family—especially the joy he found in time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence P. Vasquez; his mother, Irene R. Vasquez; and his brother-in-law, Garth Sangster. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen; his daughters, Nancy Vasquez and Kristine Vasquez; his sons-in-law, Jimmy Kinney and Lincoln Lockhart; his sisters, Sharon Sangster and Debbie Responts; his brothers, Robert Vasquez and Thomas Vasquez; his sister-in-law, Margo Vasquez; and his brother-in-law, Steve Responts. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory forward with love.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and caregivers at Tri-City Hospital for the compassion, kindness, and dignity they showed Larry during his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. A graveside burial and service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Larry’s life was one of service, dedication, and love—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
