Lydia Eloise Hernandez, 89, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025. Born in San Diego on April 19, 1936, Lydia lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, love, and family.
A devout Catholic, Lydia was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carlsbad. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, and even when she could no longer attend Mass in person, she continued to watch faithfully from home.
She was the beloved mother of Teresa M. Higgins and Richard M. Hernandez, and lovingly remembered her late children, Vincent M. Hernandez and Valerie A. Hernandez. Lydia was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Manual E. Hernandez and Barry McCord, with whom she shared deep love and companionship.
Lydia’s life was one of quiet strength, resilience, and grace. Her devotion to faith and family left a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew her.
