

Mary Rose Masthay, of Central City, KY (1933-1945), Oceanside, CA (1945-1964), and Carlsbad, CA (1964-2025) passed away on Dec. 13, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born on Feb. 23, 1933 in Central City, KY to Joseph and Rosa N. Crossman.
She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1951. She worked first as a telephone operator and then in management for Pacific Bell from 1950 until 1990. She later worked at Dental Referral of Oceanside from 1990 to 2004. In high school she was a member of the girl’s softball team and the songleading squad. She was actively involved in Carlsbad Women’s Club and Carlsbad Community Church. She was deeply dedicated to her friends and work associates, and especially her family. She was affectionally known as “Ro” to her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Bob, Joe, Jim, Marge, Gus, and Don and her daughter Carrie Dawn. She is survived by her beloved husband Mauri, to whom she was married for 71 years, her son Mark, her grandchildren Tom, Tim, Ted, Tad, Tyler and Tara, and her great grandchildren Ben, Bryce, Emory, Paxton, Darcy, Mina, Marko, Malin and Michele.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bayshire Carlsbad and Scripps Green Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care they showed Mary Rose during her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Eternal Hills Mortuary & Crematory at Eternal Hills Memorial Park at 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054 from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, Jan. 2, her memorial service and lunch reception at Carlsbad Community Church at 3175 Harding Street in Carlsbad, CA, 92008 beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Jan. 3, and her graveside services at Eternal Hills Memorial Park at 2:00 PM on Monday, Jan. 5.
