Nina Delaney, 67, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on November 2, 2019 with her darling Frank at her bedside holding her hand. She will always be remembered by her family, many friends, and all who knew her, as cheerful and friendly; someone who always saw the bright side of life and the goodness in each and every person. Nina had an infectious smile that would light up the room. She loved animals, especially dogs, and her own dogs Alex, Herschel, and Molly—all who passed on before her to the rainbow bridge.
Nina was born in New Britain, CT on March 28, 1952 to Dr. Robert P. B. Hughes and his wife Frances Damon Vivian Hughes. She grew up in West Hartford, CT and attended the Lloyd H Bugbee elementary school and the Oxford School, now Kingswood-Oxford School, Class of 1970. Nina graduated from Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
The green hills of Vermont beckoned, and Nina moved to the Burlington area where she worked for several years before relocating to Hopkinton, MA, the suburbs of Boston, where she lived for many years. She worked in several capacities including production for local radio stations and finally in sales to high tech companies.
In 1994 Nina met Frank Delaney, her soul mate and future husband. They eloped to Sedona, AZ, before moving to Oceanside, CA in 2000 where they lived an idyllic marriage and life enjoying the sun and ambience of southern California for the next nineteen years.
An exercise buff, Nina became very active with Vista Jazzercise and formed close and strong friendships in that group of women. Both Frank and Nina are charter members of the San Diego Woodies, a hobby club for enthusiasts of old wooden station wagons. These associations with wonderful people gave rise to many, many life-long friends who share in the sorrow of her passing.
Nina is predeceased by her parents, half-brother Frank Hughes, and step-daughter Emily Delaney Hughes. She is survived by her husband Frank; her stepchildren: Ellen Delaney, Patrick Delaney, Carrie Delaney Sickles and husband Scott; her grandchildren: Jack Sickles, Nathan Sickles, Calvin Narris, and Molly Narris; half-brother Robert Hughes, and many nieces and nephews.
After cremation Nina will be interred in the Hughes family plot in the Buckland Cemetery, Manchester, CT. Soon two simple memorial gatherings will be announced: one in Oceanside, CA and one in the Boston area.
