Paulette Perry Claud, 96, of Vista, California, died peacefully April 30, 2016, reuniting with her loving husband, Phillips L. Claud, M.D. Paulette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Paulette was born February 13, 1920, in Hertford, North Carolina, the daughter of William Jones Perry and Joyce Serena Hunter. She always excelled in school and graduated from high school a year early. She attended Norfolk, Virginia Business School and became a medical secretary at the Naval Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Paulette could spell any word, even the difficult medical terms.
At the Naval Hospital Paulette met and married the love of her life, Captain Phillips Lester Claud, M.D. in Hertford, North Carolina.
She loved to read, and while living in Panama, sewed all her children’s clothes. She was famous for her homemade spaghetti and meatballs. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do well. She was known for her quick wit and always saying, “I do declare.” Her southern accent and heritage was enjoyed by all.
Paulette volunteered with the American Red Cross and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the female Masonic organization.
Paulette had a great love for her family and will be missed dearly. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Ann (Richard) Heaps, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (Phillips), her sister (Lillian Ray), and three of her children, Phillips Lester Claud, Jr.; Brenda Paulette (Edward) Hoffman; and Ronald Perry Claud.
Her family would like to thank Elizabeth Hospice for their kindness and loving help, especially Pam for her thoughtful and tender care, and their Chaplain for his calming songs and messages.
A viewing and burial took place at Eternal Hills in Oceanside, California.
