

RICHARD L. (“Dick”) MILLER, passed away at his Oceanside home on May 3, 2013, 15 days short of his 85th birthday. Born in Mankato, Minnesota on May 18, 1928, Dick died in the sweet company of Mary, his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, and children Cinda and John. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his son Richard.
Over a span of 60 years, Dick served as minister to four churches, first in Fertile, Iowa, then in California in Rosemead, Garden Grove, and finally in Oceanside – 40 of those years at Lighthouse Christian Church (formerly known as Twin Cities Christian Church).
While in Oceanside, Dick served as president of the Oceanside/Carlsbad Ministers Association and president of the North Coast Evangelical Ministers Association. A dedicated Kiwanis member with at one time 17 years perfect attendance, Kiwanis named Dick to its Legion of Honor. He served eight years as a member of the Oceanside Parks and Recreation Commission, 22 years as a director of the Armed Services YMCA, and was vice chairman of its Board of Management. Dick also served on the board of directors of the North San Diego County Concert Association, serving two terms as president.
A viewing will be held at Lighthouse Christian Church on Tuesday, May 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. His funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 8, at Lighthouse Christian Church, at 11:00 a.m. A light luncheon will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall, to be followed by a graveside service at Eternal Hills Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association or to the Lighthouse Christian Church Missions Fund.
