Richard William Schulenberg III was born in Portland, Oregon on November 13, 1939 to Richard W. Schulenberg, Jr. and Virginia Shanafelt. After attending Portland's Benson High School, he worked for Boeing as a quality inspector. The rain in Seattle drove him to sunny California after a few months.
Richard was in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and then joined the Army Reserve from 1958 to 1965. He wished that he could have fought in WWII.
Richard followed a technical career in electronics and aerospace, travelling to all the United States by the age of 29. Many of the destinations were military installations. He met his spouse, Christina, in 1968 and they married in 1970. They had two children, Patricia and Alison, both married. Patricia and Christopher have 4 children, Boen, Alexis, Drake, and Vivien. Alison and Joe have 3 children - Kyle, Jeremy, and Destinee.
Richard was a visionary and an entrepreneur, working in his own businesses for 24 years. He loved flying, building (fences, decks, etc), classic cars (restoring at least four) and his pets. He was a handyman around the home and worked diligently at becoming computer savy. In 2011 he joined the San Diego Sheriff Senior Volunteers.
Richard loved his family dearly. He leaves two sisters - Ariel Hall and Pamela Schulenberg. He also leaves a half-sister, Ivy Heiman and half-brother, Ted Fisher.
Richard passed away less than three weeks after a diagnosis of lung cancer. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
