Rosalita Guerrero Quintos was born to Juan and Cayetana Guerrero (both deceased) on December 4, 1922 in San Juan, La Union, Philippines. Rosalita, fondly called by family and friends as Saling; Mama to her 10 children; Lola Saling to her 22 grandchildren along with their spouses and significant others and Lola Lola to her 17 greatgrandchildren, lived life to the fullest. She had 4 siblings - Carolina Estella (deceased), Priscilla Garcia (deceased), Dencio Guerreo (deceased) and Avelina Manadero and a nephew Cesar Guerrero who was adopted as a brother.
Although Rosalita wanted to be a nurse, she pursued an education in teaching. Due to World War II, she was not able to finish her degree. After the war, Rosalita married Colonel Quirico Quintos (deceased) who became the Chief of Staff and the Chief Security to the President. Rosalita was primarily a homemaker and provided great support to her husband’s career by devoting her time and energy to her family.
Rosalita would have been proud to say that her greatest accomplishment was raising 10 children – Rolando Quintos married to Avelina; Estela married to Ador Salvador; Daniel Quintos married to Lucefrida; Sylvia married to Eduardo Resurreccion; Jose Quintos; Gilbert Quintos married to Lee; Wilma Aguinaldo; Cecilia married to Domingo Castillo Jr.; Alexander Quintos (deceased) married to Mariafe & Marissa married to Tamas Doszkocs.
Rosalita was 57 years old when she and her husband migrated to the United States with the dream of bringing all their children to America. When she arrived here, for the first time, she became a member of the workforce, giving her the opportunity to start her own career. Eventually, all her 10 children, some with their own families, migrated to America. Some of her children started families here. Finally, all have settled and each became successful in their own way, making her very proud. Rosalita was mostly a homebody who loved gardening, crocheting, embroidery, solving puzzles, reading books and watching television. She loved to sing and play the piano, especially during her younger days. She was a simple lady, not wanting much for her own self, but always had her children as her priority. Quiet and unassuming, she taught her children to be patient, courageous and thankful of God’s graces. Her long and full life is an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rosalita passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 31, 2017 at 1:30 am. The family is hopeful that she, our Rose, would bloom in God’s garden.
“The beauty of the Rose lasts but a moment; but its memory can last a lifetime.”
