Nadiene Sahagun passed away December 23, 2019 in Kearns, Utah at the age of 75. Born Ruby Nadiene Clement to Edward Garis Clement and Louvina Marie Lang on May 28, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa, as soon as she was able she expressed her preference to never be called Ruby again. Her parents, Grandparents and siblings all called her Poodle in reference to her beautiful curly hair and exuberant personality. The oldest of 5 children she grew up riding horses and wrestling her two younger brothers, (she generally got along with her sisters) then moved to Chula Vista, California as she began high school.
After graduating high school she began working at Pacific Bell, the local phone company. This job lasted until she met Rudy Sahagun and they married December 8, 1963. Nadiene loved being a mother and with the full support of her husband they became foster parents. Opening their home to children in need of a safe and loving home posed unforeseen challenges, namely that she could not keep them all forever. Nadiene served many years as the President and Vice-President of the North San Diego County Foster Parent Association, and was a loved trainer of new foster parents. Her service was so admired the she had a day dedicated to her in San Diego County. Over the years Nadiene was able to keep 3 three children as permanent members of the family, each a necessary component to the family’s happiness. By the time she retired from foster care in 2003, more than 280 children had been fostered by Nadiene and Rudy. Her example of selfless love and service remains with all of her children and grandchildren.
Nadiene loved children and at times ran a daycare/preschool from her home, and worked as a teacher’s aide at Bobier Elementary and Lincoln Middle School. This was both loved and hated by her children as Mom was there to protect them, but they may have had an extra long detention or two when caught misbehaving. With the help of Patty Boles, they started Straight From the Heart Resource Center in San Marcos California. Straight From the Heart offered training, counseling, and advocacy for foster parents while also offering clothes, toys and other needs for foster children.
Nadiene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the opportunities for service she found within the church. She also loved the promise of eternal families that would continue after this life. Family has always been her focus and she taught her children to treasure the gift of comfort and support only family can give.
Nadiene is survived by her husband Rudy, children Jeri Yetzer, David Hultz-Sahagun, Aden Sahagun (Denise), Aran Sahagun (Nikki), Jeremy Sahagun (CariAnn), Holly Mossman (Andre), Jared Sahagun (Alliy), Heidi Galieti (Nicholas), Raymond Sahagun (Victoria), 30 grandchildren and counting, and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Stephen Clement, and Guy Clement and sisters Vicki Beers, Jill Williamson, and Suzie Clement. Predeceased by her parents Ed and Louvina Clement.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 451 Bobier Drive, in Vista , California. Graveside Services and interment provided by Eternal Hills Mortuary Services.
