OCEANSIDE The patriarch of the Valeri family, Ruggero Valeri, died September 9, 2015. Ruggero was born in Strangolagalli, Italy on July 10, 1920 to Gaetano and Rosa Valeri. After attending school and working on the family farm, Ruggero was called to duty with the Italian Army in 1940. He served all four years in Libya. Upon returning, he married Maria Assunta Vincenzi. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Assunta's death in 2005. Ruggero brought his family to the United States in 1968 looking for a better life. Here, he worked at Eternal Hills Cemetery as a groundskeeper until his retirement.Nothing was more important to Ruggero than his family. He is survived by his son Valerio (Rita) Valeri, daughter Angela Hillstrom (Jon Pritchard), and son Massimo (Karen) Valeri. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A viewing and rosary service will be held September 17th from 4:00 8:00 PM in the chapel of the Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside, California.
The funeral will be held September 18 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Oceanside, with burial immediately following at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
