Scott Fitzgerald Pound, age 52, passed away February 19, 2017, in Narita, Chiba, Japan after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born on January 9, 1965 at the Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was the son of Lieutenant Colonel David G. Pound, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret) and the late Pamela Fitzgerald Pound. Scott had three siblings: an older brother David “Guy”, Jr., an older sister Lisa, and a younger sister Rachel.
He was married to Akiko Minato Pound and they had two sons, Sean, age 14 and Shanon, age 9.
Scott graduated from Vista High School in Vista, California with the class of 1983. He attended Palomar Community College and graduated in 1990 from California State University Long Beach. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity while at Long Beach. Following graduation he taught English in Japan for three years, after which he studied Japanese for six months. After returning to California he used his newly learned Japanese language skills while working for Japanese companies in the international cargo shipping industry, ultimately landing a job with Federal Express. He returned to Japan with his family in 2006.
A Memorial Service for Scott will be held on March 30th at 1:00 pm at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
