
A Memorial Mass for Arlie Mary “Maria” Gorman, age 74 of Ogdensburg will be held at 2:00pm on March 7, 2015 at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home Chapel with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Refreshments will follow the service in the community room. She will be buried in the spring at St. Lawrence Union Cemetery in Clayton. Maria passed away peacefully on February 24, 2015.
Surviving are her siblings Thomas Gorman of Shreveport, LA, Patricia Larson of Canandaigua, NY and Elizabeth O’Brian of Canandaigua, NY, along with an aunt, uncle, several cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and close friends.
She was born in Potsdam, NY on October 11, 1940, daughter of Gerard and Arlie (Cummings) Gorman.
Maria began her education in a one room school at St. Lawrence Corners and graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1960 with honors in French, also enjoying drawing and playing the piano.
Maria moved to Ogdensburg, NY in 1971, working in private residences helping disabled adults. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s Home and was a dedicated member of Notre Dame parish. Maria belonged to several prayer and bible study groups, also marching in Washington DC as part of Right to Life. Maria was an active advocate for all people and animals, with a special affection for cats. Maria’s kindness, compassion, and love for others will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
As a resident of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Maria was a member of the Residents’ Council and often assisted at Mass. She also enjoyed the trivia contests and community events. Her family is forever thankful for the excellent care and love Maria received from the staff.
