A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard “Bernie” S. Boyer, age 92 of Ogdensburg will be held on Thursday (June 27, 2019) at 10:00am at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery with military honors.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (June 26th) from 3:00pm – 7:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Boyer passed away on Monday (June 24, 2019) at St. Joseph’s Home surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife Agnes of 68 years; his children Timothy “Wally” (Diane) Boyer of Ogdensburg, Anne (Daniel) Dodge of Ogdensburg, Edward (Barbara) Boyer of Plattsburgh, Maureen (Mick) Fennessy of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Lori (Michael) Badlam of Williamsburg, VA, Brenda (Scott) Field of Cicero, NY and Tom (Denise) Boyer of Myrtle Beach, SC; 24 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, sister in- laws Honey Boyer of CA, Peggy Boyer of TN, and Judy Boyer of Lisbon NY and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by brothers Gerald, Larry & Paul Boyer; sisters Evangeline “Lynne” Lawson, Eleanor Letham, Alice Cordwell, Anne St. Andrews, Harriett Boyer and a granddaughter Chelsea Fennessy.
Bernie was born on December 22, 1926 in Massena NY, a son of the late Edgar & Blanche (Valley) Boyer. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and enlisted in the US Navy. He then returned to attend college at Canton ATC and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration.
He then married the love of his life, Agnes Dorothy Ramie on June 23, 1951 at Notre Dame Church.
During his career he worked on the Seaway construction project in Massena NY, and then worked at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital for 26 years as supervisor of the maintenance department retiring in 1987.
He was also a landlord for many years.
Bernie was a member of Notre Dame Church where he served on the parish council and was an usher for many years. A lifelong member of the Elks Club, and a former member of the Ogdensburg men’s bowling & golf leagues. He enjoyed working, fixing things, carpentry, riding his bicycle, walking, attending air shows. He also enjoyed war ships history, watching hockey and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
His passion and pride was in his work and he enjoyed helping people.
