A Funeral Mass for Duane V. Burcume, age 78 of Canton and formerly of Rensselaer Falls will be held on Tuesday (June 4, 2019) at 1:00pm at the St. Joseph’s Home Chapel with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Colton.
Mr. Burcume passed away at the St. Joseph’s Home on Thursday (May 30, 2019) surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving is his wife Paulette of Canton; a son Daryl Burcume of Massena and daughter Denise Burcume & her wife Nicole of Peru, NY; two sisters Brenda Bonnell & her husband Richard of Loveland, CO and Gail Donaldson of Massena.
Duane was born on July 3, 1940 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Vernon & Eva May (Denesha) Burcume. He graduated from Heuvelton School and continued his education at Canton ATI majoring in Dairy Agriculture. He later married Paulette Cunningham on July 27, 1963 at St. Henry’s Church in Dekalb Jct.
During his career he was employed as a field technician with New York State Quality Milk Promotion Services through Cornell University for 34 ½ years. He then began a part-time courier position with Community Bank in Canton until his retirement.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, caning chairs, traveling, camping, gardening, playing cards, horseshoes and board games, spending time with his friends and family and being outdoors.
