A Graveside service for Lawrence R. Steele, age 75 of Union Street in Heuvelton will be held at 11:00am on Thursday October 29, 2020 at the Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Linda Foody officiating. Mr. Steele passed away at his home on Thursday October 22, 2020.
Surviving is his sister Patricia Mayette of Canton; brother-in-law Earl Jacobs of Ogdensburg; nieces & nephews Tina Newcombe of Heuvelton, Tara Putney of Waddington, Todd Brown of North Carolina, and Tim & Eric Jacobs addresses unknown; great-nieces Breanne (Christian) Vazquez & their children Cian, Izabella & Mirabella Camilla of Heuvelton and Lindsay Brown & her children Aiden & Alanaih Brown of Hermon; great-nephews Steele Floyd of Albany & his children Naveh & Adriana Floyd and Beau McGregor of Reno NV.
A sister Judy Jacobs predeceased him.
Larry was born on February 21, 1945 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Donald & Olga (Wood) Steele. He graduated from Heuvelton Central and continued his education earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Chemistry. He later entered the US Navy in 1987 working as a meteorologist, oceanographer and astronomer for 23 ½ while enlisted. Following his discharge he began working for Heuvelton Central School as a substitute teacher and later for the US Census Bureau.
Larry was a past member of the Ogdensburg & Heuvelton AmVets and the Lisbon American Legion. He enjoyed the fascination of science, helping others, assisting those in need and being around his family.
