Margaret J. Szafranski

Margaret J. Szafranski, age 89 of Ogdensburg, passed away early Saturday morning (January 10, 2015) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility with her son Steve, his wife Nancy and granddaughter Crystal by her side. Prior to her passing, she was visited by several family members and friends. Margaret has donated her body to the anatomical gift program through SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Surviving are three sons, Steven (Nancy) Szafranski of Norfolk, Michael Szafranski & his companion Mary Kropidowski of WI, Paul Szafranski of Rochester; two daughters Patricia (Ted) Rahn of Canton & Maria (Bill) Brien of Ogdensburg; one brother Stanley Kaine of Canton; two sisters Bernice Brierly & Cathy Bellgrade of FL; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Her husband Joseph Szafranski in 1981; an infant daughter Joan Szafranski at birth; two brothers John & Alex Kaine and two sisters Dora Perrault and Anna Deserre predeceased her.

Margaret was born on June 23, 1925 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late John & Alice (Kaine) Webster. She attended Ogdensburg Schools, and later married Joseph Szafranski on August 27, 1944. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, crafts, sewing, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. Margaret was a giving person who donated countless pairs of mittens to the neighborhood center and baby sweaters and booties to Claxton Hepburn Medical Center’s Gift Shop. She was loved very much by her family, and will be missed by all that knew her.
