Mary Jean was a resident of Ogdensburg, NY for a great portion of her life. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1957. She married Fred (Rick) Badlam on September 27, 1958. They happily raised their children in Ogdensburg. She began working right after graduation and spent her entire career in positions that allowed her to be around and interact with people, which she loved. She was an Operator for three years with New York Telephone, then began a career working the front counter for a family business, Qwik Rite Cleaners, for over 20 years. In 1981, she and her husband opened Brannigan’s Restaurant in Ogdensburg. She considered this the best “job” she ever had, as Owner and Hostess for the restaurant. She ended her career working the front counter at the UPS store in Ogdensburg until 2021, at which time she and Rick relocated to Williamsburg, VA to be near family.
Mary Jean was known for being very active in the community. She loved arts and crafts; and actively pursued this hobby throughout the North Country for many years. She was also very active in golf and bowling for many years. She will be most remembered for having a huge heart and always smiling.
Mary Jean and her family were, and are, great supporters of the Ogdensburg Boy’s Club. Mary Jean and Rick often stated that the “Club” saved their two sons and brother from a “life of mischief”. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Mary Jean’s memory to the Ogdensburg Boys Club, at 610 Patterson Street in Ogdensburg, NY.
A celebration of Mary Jean’s life is planned for this summer in Ogdensburg.
