

Funeral services for Virginia “Belle” Sprowls age 93, a resident of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and formerly of the Flack Road in Lisbon, will be held on Wednesday (July 9, 2014) at 1:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service at Flackville/Campbell Cemetery in Lisbon.
Calling hours will be held also on Wednesday July 9th from 11:00am to the time of the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Sprowls passed away at the nursing home on July 1, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Surviving are three sons Claude Sprowls & his wife Ruby of Pitcarin NY, William Sprowls & his wife Sandra Gelinas of Hendersonville NC and Lance Sprowls & his wife Suzanne Hunt of Mint Hill NC; three daughters Claudette Haskell of Grantsville UT, Elaine Rose & her husband Joseph of Ogdensburg, Louise Gee & her husband Steve of Etowah NC; a sister Kathleen Ulrich of Lowville NY along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews & cousins.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband Leslie; two daughters Sylvia Mainville & Carmen Sprowls; a sister Alyce Hundley; two brothers David & Robert Brown and a grandson James Baker.
She was born on August 10, 1920 in Pierrepont, NY a daughter of George & Mabel (Hill) Brown. She attended Ogdensburg Free Academy for her education, and married Leslie Sprowls on February 6, 1940 at the Nevin Memorial Parsonage. Belle operated the family farm with her husband on the Flack Road for many years along with babysitting for Lisbon area families. She was a member of the Nevin Memorial Church in Lisbon and enjoyed music, dancing and embroidery.
