

Born on December 26, 1922 at Oak Point, he was the 5th of 10 children of Walter & Margaret (Dake) Plantz. He attended River Road School, a one room school house near Oak Point. Later he attended the Hammond High School. In early 1941 Bill joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a depression era volunteer public relief program for unmarried men ages 18-24, in Canton.
After the war ended, Bill moved to Napa, CA and took a job with the United States Postal Service in Valejo, CA as a mail carrier.
In the early 1970s, after retiring from the postal service, he returned to the area where he owned & operated “Bill’s Long Branch Tavern” in Brier Hill, NY.
In the late 1970’s he then built and operated “Plantz Cottages” near Oak Point on the St. Lawrence River. Along with his parents, Bill was pre deceased by his sisters Lottie LaPelusa; Grace Conger; Viola Heck; Mary Savage. Brothers Warren, Walter, Louis; Franklin; & David.
A life long bachelor, he had no children. He is survived by nieces & nephews, Daniel (Mary) Plantz, Hammond; Edward (Christy) LaPelusa, Reno, NV; James (Linda) LaPelusa, Gallatin, TN; Dale (Marea) Heck, Stanford, VA; Dorothy (Jason) Ramsey, Morristown Center; Margaret (Clifford) Scougal Carthage; Warren (Nancy) Savage, Bergen; W. Edward (Debbie) Savage, Canton; Judy (Lynn) Hamm, Watertown; Michael (Cynthia) Savage Elma and Hammond.
A private service will be held later in the summer at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, Potsdam, NY.
