Brett was born on March 12, 1962 in Amarillo, Texas to Gene and Patsy Hay. After just 58 short years, cancer took his physical body from us, but we plan to joyfully see him again someday in a totally healed body as his spirit lives for eternity in Heaven.
Brett attended Putnam City Original High School, where he enjoyed playing football and wrestling. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. Even though he graduated from OSU, he was a staunch OU fan. He could tell you any of the Sooner football statistics from the many years he watched them play. He would never miss watching a game and he loved getting together with his dear, long time friends to cheer on the Team.
After graduating from college, Brett became an intern for the Honorable Governor George Nigh. Recognizing Brett’s abilities, Governor Nigh asked him to come back the next year and serve as his assistant press secretary. He handled the challenge with excellence.
His next career choice was with Patterson Dental Supply, where he started in territorial sales. Patterson, recognizing his extraordinary sales abilities soon promoted him to Branch Manager. Along with his exceptional work ethic, Brett always made sure that his clients were satisfied with the products and taken care of completely.
After a long and successful employment with Patterson Dental Supply, God directed Brett’s career path back to a Church that he had been a member of for 56 years. He became part of the Church Staff at Putnam City Baptist Church. His smart business head and past work experience was incorporated as he became PCBC’s Church Administrator. Brett loved to interact with the Staff as he helped guide them in their decision making. However, it wasn’t uncommon to hear laughter coming out of his office as he loved joking and teasing with all the Staff.
Brett had incredible people skills that made him loved by all. He was always thinking of ways to draw people to the Church. He loved to play golf, when time permitted, so with the help of very special qualified people, would put together golf tournaments as well as street rod car shows. These events were used as a bridge to draw people to the church.
He was licensed into the Gospel Ministry during his 14 years at Putnam City Baptist Church. He served passionately at PCBC for his Lord and the Church Family. His passing leaves a huge hole in many hearts as he will be missed more than words can say.
Brett was preceded in death by his adoring grandparents from both his Father and Mother’s family. Also, special aunts, uncles and cousins have gone before.
Brett is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Debbie, his wonderful parents, Gene and Patsy Hay, his younger brother, Mark and beautiful wife, Ashley. Brett cherished his immediate family and would do anything for them. Also, he enjoyed spending time with his extended, bonus family: two grandsons, Jaeden and Asher Hume, one granddaughter, Mira Hume and their parents, Jeremy and Stephanie Hume. Son Alan Hume lives in Massachusetts.
There will be a private family graveside service on January 18, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond, OK. A Celebration of Life service is being planned for a later date at Putnam City Baptist Church and because of the pandemic, will be streamed live for all to watch. (PCBC.TV)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Putnam City Baptist Church.
This is where Brett’s heart was and it would be his desire to bless the Church Family.
