Florencia B. Flores-Abcede, 92, of Edmond passed from this life on March 7, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home and a funeral mass will be held at St. Monica’s Catholic Church on Friday, March 19th at 11am. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery following the mass.
Florencia was born on July 25, 1928 in the Philippines. Following high school she attended the University of Santo Tomas in Manila where she received her Bachelors of Pharmacy degree. “Polly,” as her friends knew her, married Dr. Cesar Flores in September of 1951. Together, they raised four wonderful children.
She owned and operated her pharmacy at home and later joined the staff at the local hospital following her husband’s death. In the mid 1980’s Florencia married Albilio Abcede. He passed away a few short years later.
Florencia moved to Dallas, Texas upon the invitation of her daughter and family. She lived there from 1988-1992. They moved to Oklahoma and she stayed with them until 2000. She went back to the Philippines for another 11 years and came back to Edmond, OK in 2012 until her death.
A devout Catholic, she went to daily mass while in the Philippines. She was a member of Nuestra Senora del Rosario Catholic Church in her hometown. She sang in the choir and was involved with the Catholic Women’s League and the San Antonio church group. She enjoyed raising funds for her church in her spare time. She was a Girl Scout leader in her younger days but her family was always her priority.
Polly was an easy going woman with a thoughtful and generous spirit. She loved traveling, playing the piano and singing in the church choir. She enjoyed playing mahjong, crocheting, and she was an amazing at cooking Filipino cuisine. Polly made many wonderful memories during her remarkable life and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carlos and Rosario (Jarasa) Balce; first husband Dr. Cesar Florido Flores; second husband Albilio Abcede; son Julio Flores; a sister Clemencia Villadiego; and three brothers: Herminio Balce, Virgilio Balce, and Carmelo Balce.
She is survived by three children: Salome Porterfield and husband Jim, Cesar Flores and wife Nida, Matthew Flores and wife Anne; 15 grandchildren, of which six live in the U.S: John Porterfield and wife Abby, Jason Porterfield, James Porterfield, Gel Flores, Charles Flores, and Camille Coloma and husband Ian; daughter-in-law Agnes Flores; niece Melian Perez; 17 great grandchildren, of which three live in the U.S: Chesca Coloma, Andrei Coloma, and Violet Porterfield; as well as numerous other beloved family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Polly’s name to St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
