Born on December 9, 1943, in Dallas, Texas, Jerry gave the U.S. Navy a shot in his younger years but his free soul wasn’t one for ship schedules. He did, however, build a long and successful career in horticulture sales and services. On November 7, 1968, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou, and together they created a beautiful life grounded with love, laughter and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
Jerry was a man who lived fully and gave freely. He never met a stranger. He had a passion for making people smile and brought warmth and humor wherever he went. He devoted his life to being the best husband, Dad, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor. Jerry believed family was life’s greatest treasure. He will always be remembered for his heart that was bigger than Texas and was absolutely the best dad anyone could ask for.
Jerry was a hard worker but always made time to enjoy things he loved like fishing, woodworking, and tending to his garden. He especially enjoyed cookouts with family and relaxing on the patio, cold beer in hand, sharing stories and laughter with his good friend Wes.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Lou; beloved sister, Sandi Harborth and husband Robert; brother-in-law Richard Crisler; children, Jennifer Lynn, Robin Louise and husband Art, Rodney Lon and wife Kim, Jessica Lynn, and Jeri Lucille; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, multiple extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Lanning and Minnie Lee; stepmother, Doris Faye; beloved brother, Ronnie Gene; half-siblings Chris Barr and Barbara Griffith, and his best friend of all time, Chuck Johnston.
Jerry’s presence was a gift to everyone blessed to know him. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be treasured in our hearts forever.
Memorial Service will be held, Friday, 2:00pm, July 25, 2025, at Memorial Park Funeral Home Historic Chapel at 13400 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131.
