Mr. Rogers Leon Thompson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, relative and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on August 22, 1940, in Lima, Oklahoma, to loving parents William Thomas and Mary Alice Thompson, Rogers spent his childhood in El Reno, where he was one of eight children.
Growing up alongside his siblings, Rogers developed a deep sense of family and community. His sisters, Ruby Jean Thompson, Loretta Adair, Mary Nesbitt, Lois Vaughn, and his brothers, Lawrence "Butch" Thompson were integral parts of his life's journey, sharing countless memories and life lessons. Adding more love to the family in his adult years, he, his brother and sisters welcomed and shared a bond with siblings, Alva Jean Ewing, and Tommy Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Ruby Jean, Loretta, and Mary.
After completing high school, Rogers answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Army in August 1960. He was stationed in Germany, where he served with dedication and achieved the rank of Specialist E-4 before he was honorably discharged in July 1963.
Rogers moved to Oklahoma City and began his civilian career at the Continental Baking Company, where he worked for over 15 years before accepting a position with the City of Nichols Hills. As Public Works Superintendent, Rogers demonstrated unwavering commitment and hard work until his retirement in 2008.
One unforgettable Saturday afternoon on March 8,1975, Rogers met the love of his life, Alberta Marie, whom he gave the nickname, “Dimples.” Not wanting her to get away, he asked her to marry him after a two-year courtship and they were married on April 8, 1977. Together, they built a strong and loving family.
In 1987, Rogers joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where he became an active member of the church community. His passion for music was evident in his participation in the church's adult choir, but it was in the male chorus that his true love for singing was unmistakable. He found unparalleled joy and fulfillment in the male chorus, cherishing every moment spent with the group. His enthusiasm was so profound that he actively pursued and inspired others to join, hoping they would share in his deep affection for his musical family.
Friends and family will remember Rogers for his special and unique ability to make people feel valued, loved and uplifted. He always prioritized family, spending countless hours fostering loving relationships, and whose genuine heart left a permanent mark on everyone he met. His legacy of love and compassion will be cherished for generations to come. His contagious laughter, hilarious, creative and unforgettable quotes will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
