Donald Harold Geving, Jr., died on July 30, 2021, in Orlando, FL. Born November 2, 1949, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to the late Donald Harold Geving, Sr. and Helen Stepanek Geving Lippert. Don was the first-born child who blazed a path for his siblings, cousins, and friends to follow. He attended numerous elementary schools, Robert E. Lee Junior High, and Edgewater High School. He graduated from Edgewater in 1968 where he was President of the Civitan Club. At Edgewater, he was an All-Star baseball player and star football player where he won numerous awards weekly and for the County and State.
Don had a tumultuous life and found himself in a shelter for boys. When he was fourteen, the Barker family, Mark and Rosalind (“Jim”) were awarded guardianship of him, and he became a part of their family where he inherited two brothers, Kent and Bruce.
After High School, he entered the Navy where he was a Medical Corpsman and later a Dental Technician, but more importantly was a loving husband to his wife, Pat, and father to their three children, Shannon, Colleen and Loren. While in college, he turned his life around and became an avid Christian. He returned to the Orlando area where he worked as an Insurance Adjuster and later an Agent to provide for his family and worked harder to be present in their lives. He was supportive of Pat's pursuit of her college degree and career with Lockheed Martin and later as a High School teacher. He was always dedicated to her and his children. He helped support his daughters with many different interests in sports and music. Somehow, he also found time to complete his BS in Business Administration at Florida Southern in Lakeland and his master’s degree from Liberty University.
Don was a member of College Park Baptist Church now known as Church on the Drive and taught Sunday School for many years. Don has been a friend to many people. He took particular interest in jail ministry and helping the homeless and he and Patricia also sponsored a foreign exchange student named Irene Schipper, from The Netherlands. She spent a year with us while attending Edgewater High School. He really enjoyed learning all about her culture and family back home.
His kindness and selflessness have been felt by and will be remembered by so many. He was a devout and forgiving Christian who was always willing to help others any way he could.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Patricia Troiano Geving (Cleveland, OH), his beloved Mother, Helen Stepanek Geving Lippert (North Dakota); his children Shannon (Olsen), Colleen and Loren. He also leaves behind brothers Mark Geving, Alan Geving, Paul Lippert, Otto Lippert, Herman Lippert, Kent Barker, Bruce Barker and his grandson, Tristan Geving and a multitude of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
A viewing will be held at 12 noon, Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Baldwin-Fairchild at Chapel Hill, 2420 Harrell Road, Orlando, FL followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1pm. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy. Food, sharing, and fun with friends and family will take place immediately thereafter at his home to remember Don and follow in his footsteps doing great things for others. www.BaldwinFairchildChapelHill.com
