Charles Edward Thompson, age 86, of Overland Park, Kansas went to his heavenly resting place on July 22, 2022. Rita, his beloved bride of 64 years, was by his side. Chuck was born on September 29, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Evelyn Thompson; and his daughter, Pam. He is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Joe (Maryanne), Bill, Dave (Karyn), Jeanne Dusek (Jim), Jim, and Michelle Hanson (Bill); as well as 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Chuck was an avid Chiefs and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed many summers lounging in his backyard pool, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Many parties were held at the Thompson house, especially Chiefs, Sunday barbecues, birthdays and anniversaries. He loved being surrounded by family.
Chuck worked for Bendix, Black and Veatch, followed by almost 30 years with the city of Overland Park, as an elevator inspector, a job he loved, but it had its ups and downs. After he retired, he could be found at home with Rita, enjoying their time together.
Chuck was a devout Catholic and attended church weekly. He and Rita co-coordinated the REACH program at Cure' of Ars Parish. He was a Sacristan in the Church and could be seen after Mass visiting with all. He was a Scout Master and coach to many of the boys at the school
Chuck's visitation will begin at 9:30am with Rosary Service at 10:15am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Cure' of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas. Services will be live-streamed by Cure' of Ars at www.cureofars.com/funeral Inurnment will take place in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ascend Hospice or Bishop Miege High School.
