Edward Wayne Major passed away peacefully on November 15, 2019. It was his 94th birthday. He was born on November 15, 1925, and was the fifth child of Tom and Florence Major. Ed was the last surviving member of his family. He graduated from Assaria High School in 1944 and later that year entered into the US Navy. He married Delories Arline Isaacson in January 1945 before heading to the Pacific during WW II. This union lasted for 59 years before Arline’s passing in 2004. Surviving are their two daughters, Markeeta Kay (Major) Bundschuh (James) and Kathleen Diane (Major) Oetting (James) as well as 5 grandchildren (Michelle Bundschuh Wohlford, Michael Bundschuh, Jeff Oetting, Chris Oetting, Erin Oetting) and 7 great-grandchildren (Luke Wohlford, Seth Wohlford, Tanner Wohlford, Mason Oetting, Colby Oetting, Nola Bundschuh, Finn Bundschuh). Ed started his lengthy career with John Deere Company upon his return from the war in Salina, KS. Later he, along with his family, was transferred to the Kansas City area where they settled in Overland Park, KS. Ed was a longtime member (60 years) of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. He served that church in many different ways but his favorite was as the master gardener and mowing the grass on his John Deere tractor mower every week. In his retirement, he loved being outdoors so this gardening hobby was a perfect fit for “farmer Ed”. Also he took up golf and always insisted on walking the courses he played. Ed was a kind, gentle man and was indeed a member of the “greatest generation”. He set fine examples for his family to live by. His family will miss him greatly but are comforted to know he has gone to be with his Lord Jesus and his beloved wife, Arline.
Private graveside services will be at a later date in Salina, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 9100 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS 66206.
