Hazel Maurine Shaw

Maurine Shaw, 91, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the home of her son, Robert, in Littleton, Colorado. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Monday, Dec. 19 at McGilley and Hoge Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Overland Park Presbyterian Church. The family will gather at Johnson County Memorial Gardens for a brief graveside service followed by a reception in the church's Fellowship Hall. The family suggests donations to Overland Park Presbyterian Church, 8029 Overland Park Drive, Overland Park, Kansas, 66204. Maurine was born in Hillsdale, Kansas on October 21, 1920 to Luther and Blanche Russell. Her family moved to Overland Park in 1932 where she graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School. On July 3, 1940, Maurine and Louis Everett Shaw were wed in Kansas City. Maurine and Louie then began a journey around the country as he was moved from Army posting to posting. Maurine followed him and took up temporary residence at each location until Louie shipped out to England in preparation for the invasion. At that time, Maurine moved back to Overland Park to live with her mother, Blanche and took a job with Kansas City Power and Light in Overland Park. Following the war, they settled in Kansas City while making plans to build their dream home on the lot they bought in Overland Park. They designed and built that house together, moved to it in 1953 and lived there for the rest of their lives, as did Blanche. The family was increased by one with Robbie's birth in 1955 and there they made a family. Maurine is survived by her son Robert, daughter-in-law Kathryn and granddaughters Meghan and Kelly of Littleton, CO; nieces Deanna Merrill of Coronado, CA, Deborah Bauman of Kansas City, MO, Melissa Bauman of Cumberland, RI; nephews James Bauman of Overland Park, KS, Bradley Bauman of Normal, IL; great nieces LeeAnn Merrill, Jennifer Fontaine, Heather Williams, Emily Bauman; great nephew Andrew Merrill; great-great nieces and nephews Jocelyn Ruby, Jack, Ty and Nicholas Fontaine, Grace and Lucas Williams, Danica and Joshua Merrill.
