
Herbert Kloster, 86, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the comfort of his home in Prairie Village. Herbert was born on September 28, 1926 and was the seventh of nine children born to George and Katherine (Jung) Kloster. He attended St. Peter’s Cathedral and Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS. A member of the “Greatest Generation”, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corp to serve during WWII. When he turned 18 he was deployed and served in Guam and China. On September 4, 1948 he married the love of his life, Anna (Wirth) and together they raised nine children. Herbert retired as a supervisor from Armco Steel Corporation at the age of 55 after 32 years of service. During retirement he enjoyed being a caregiver for his grandchildren and working on their farm in LaCygne, KS.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers (Michael, George, Joseph, and Edward); and two sisters (Marie White and Barbara Marnett). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna (Wirth) Kloster; three sons – Herbert, Kevin, and Mark (Brenda); six daughters – Stephanie (Jon) Rahija, Janet (John) Dillman, Barbara (Lyle) White, Sharon Speer, Anna (Dean) Danner, and Katie Kloster; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his sisters Carolyn Conrow and Lillian Clark.
Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Peter Van Veldhuizen and Jennifer and Dr. John Weigel for the excellent care and patience they provided him. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Carol Baldwin, Sue Rhodes, Lucille Woods, and Dawn Hauser for their loving care this past year and to Good Shepherd Hospice for keeping him comfortable in his last weeks of life.
