Jean Haynes

Hilda Jean Haynes passed away on January 6, 2021 at Lakeview Village Care Center, Lenexa, KS. Jean was born May 12, 1932 near Easton, MO to Paul and Helen Boyer. Jean spent the early years of her life in northwest Missouri graduating from Clarksdale High School and marrying Kenneth Haynes in 1950. They moved to Overland Park, KS in 1961. Jean and Kenneth were a team undaunted for 64 years, but Jean was also an independent woman going far beyond mother and housewife. Early on she worked side by side with Kenneth on their Missouri farm and then later in Kansas City at Future Homes, Johnson County National Bank, and Business Men's Assurance. Jean had tireless energy and an underlying creative spirit that came alive in her baking (she would bake and decorate wedding cakes), in her cooking (there was no recipe she would not try), in her quilting prowess showcasing her graphic design talent, and in her fashion sense and sewing skills, making dresses, coats, blouses, suits and more for her family. She even tackled car upholstery. Jean was renowned for her generosity and care of others, always sharing the bounty of the garden she and Kenneth cared for so lovingly, but her cookies are what everyone especially loved.

Jean is survived by a daughter Martha (Kenneth) Hagen of Topeka, KS, a son Martin (Jeanine Bianco) Haynes of Wilmington, DE, five grandchildren Emilie Hagen (John Schlueter), Claire (Jorge) Alvarado, Alex (Jillian) Haynes, Cody Haynes (John Younger), Francesca Haynes, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and a daughter-in-law.

Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lakeview Village Foundation, 9100 Park Street, Lenexa, KS 66215.
