Obituary of Jo Ann Finlay
Jo Ann Finlay of Mission, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Her Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 pm followed by a visitation until 3:00 pm with the family on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at d.41 Event Space (located in Dalton’s Flowers), 8135 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas. Memorial Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Food Kitchen in Kansas City, Kansas. Jo Ann was born the youngest of six children on March 7, 1940 to Charlie and Bennie (Ward) Payne in Bynum Texas. The family moved to Rimby, Missouri and eventually found its way to Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Rosedale High School. At the time of her retirement, Jo Ann was an Admin Assistant for the Regional Administrator for HCFA/CMS. She was an avid bowler and loved to travel. Prior to his death, she and her husband Dave enjoyed going Las Vegas and local casinos. Jo Ann’s favorite time of the year was Christmas and she would spend weeks shopping for her family, baking goodies and making everyone’s favorite cheeseball for the family gathering on Christmas Eve. She never asked much for herself and was always welcoming and concerned for others. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband; parents; great-grandson, Keith Wasmer; three brothers, Charlie Payne, Jr., Billy Ray Payne and Clarence Payne; two sisters, Nell Smith and Dorothy Armstrong and three nephews. Survivors include her children Kim Walkling (Chuck), Renee Addington-Carey (Tim), Rhonda Addington, David Finlay (Pat Carl), Stephanie Roach (Robert), Keith Finlay (Nanetta), Chris Finlay, Cindy Finlay (Bill Cooper) and Paul Finlay (Laura). She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, brother-in-law Billy Joe Armstrong, sister-in-law Narcella Payne and many nieces and nephews.
