Joyce Ann Walden of Overland Park, Kansas died peacefully at midnight on January 14, 2022. She was 74. Joyce was born on December 1, 1947. She grew up in Prairie Village and remained in the Kansas City area throughout her life. Joyce graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1965. She worked as a secretary for UMB Bank and Travelers Insurance, among other companies. She will be remembered most as a loving mother, a devoted daughter, a caring sister, a loyal friend, and a hero to the dogs and cats she rescued and adopted. Joyce had an especially kind heart and soul. She was a caring and thoughtful person of great integrity. She loved deeply and unconditionally, and she put the needs of others ahead of her own.
Joyce was predeceased by her mother, Gloria Balke, and her sister, Sandra Sheffer. She is survived by her sons, John and Michael (Chasitie), her siblings, Linda and Doug Balke, and her grandchildren, Halston and Buddy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Great Plains SPCA (formerly "Animal Haven") or Kansas City Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
