Linda was born in Kansas City. Linda Ann (Moore) Rucker was born October 16, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri to George “Gene” Moore and Maxine (Prue) Moore.
Linda graduated from Bishop Miege Catholic High School in 1960. She went back to school as a working adult to Johnson County Community College in the late 1980s. She graduated with her Associates Degree in 1991. Going to school as a working adult with school-age children is difficult, then and now. Her natural-born persistence and the dream of “getting that good job” kept her motivated to not only complete her coursework, but to excel in her studies as well.
Linda started her “good job” with DST Systems in 1993, where she worked until her retirement in 2004 as a Senior Project Manager.
Linda loved animals and working with her hands. She was a woman of many creative talents and interests throughout her life. Her interests included:
• Ceramic arts, including a certification to teach Ceramic Arts to others
• Sewing clothes and dolls for her children and grandchildren
• Knitting and crochet
• Quilting
• Painting all manner of objects
• Gardening
• Cooking and baking
• Working with her hands and caring for her home in Overland Park
• Riding and caring for her horse (bit of an understatement as she was quite accomplished)
Undaunted by chocolate flying around the kitchen, sawdust on the floor or yards fabric all over the place, she was always on the lookout for her next project or activity. Linda was a hard worker and once she set her mind to a task, she never gave up.
With a laugh like no other, she often had others in stitches just because she was laughing so hard. Sometimes we didn’t even know what was so funny, but we laughed along anyway. She’d recover, tell us what was so funny and the laughter began all over again.
As she settled into retirement, she grew to dislike having her picture taken. Linda insisted that what was going on around her was more important. An unintended consequence being that her family does not have many pictures of her enjoying activities and company. If anyone has pictures of Linda, the family would appreciate it if the pictures were shared.
Our morning talks on the deck over a cup of coffee are cherished. Linda was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren. She insisted that when it was her time that we not be sad for her because she was going home.
We’ll try, Mom, but we will miss you dearly. You can ground us all later.
