

Nerma G. (Micky) Henry, 99, Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013. A Celebration of Micky’s Life will be held 1 PM, Tuesday, October 22 at Colonial Church, 7039 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. Visitation will follow at the church. Interment will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee Mission LaSertoma, 10975 S. Gardner Road, Olathe, KS, 66061. Micky was born July 30, 1914 in Kansas City, MO, to parents Charles E. and Erma Belle (Smith) Burk. Church was a very important aspect of Micky’s life. She was the first President of Cherokee Christian Women’s Fellowship and the first woman elder at Cherokee. She received the second “Colonial Salutes” award from Colonial Church in Prairie Village. Her working life began at age 16 for Gates Funeral Home where she was employed for 10 years. The next 18 years were given to Lix Corporation, where she attained the office of Vice President. Micky worked in the office for Turney Wood Products, and later for 18 years for Suchart and Son where she was fondly known as “the Candy Lady.” She was an honorary member of Phi Tau Omega Sorority, a business sorority.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Leroy C. Henry; her parents; a sister, Charlaine Brown; a brother, E. Charles Burk; and a dear friend, Elmer Gunderson. Left to cherish her memory are: a daughter, Charlaine Milliken; a son, Arthur (Pete) Henry and his wife, Pam; 4 grandchildren: Laura (Steve) Sereg, Rob (Beth) Henry, Scott (Lisa) Milliken, and Christy (Greg) Prescott; 6 great grandchildren: Preston Sereg, Heather (Alex) Sirovy, Keith and Jason Henry, Grace and Colin Milliken; and by 2 nieces: Valerie (Wallace) Ford and Karen (Gene) Wheatley.
