My mother age 97 passed away, November 29, 2015, about 10pm Kansas time. The nurse at Villa St Francis called me and told me her blood pressure was very low and she was failing.   Granimom's last evening was very interesting because she had a visit from her long time Virginia friends who left about 10 minutes before I called her at 6pm.  They told me she was reading the Readers Digest when they arrived. Granimom sounded fine to each of us.  She bequeathed her body to KU medical center. The funeral home picked her up and delivered her to KU about midnight.  I have been home one week since I saw her in Kansas and talked with her every day since. Mary and I are very glad we made this recent trip to Kansas.   Those who knew her will remember her as a kind, strong woman who loved children, animals, God, and family.

Many of you know my mother Maxine as Granimom who lived independently and fiercely maintained her independence for 97+ years. She adamantly refused my efforts to move her to assisted-living.  Sunday, August 30, she told me she could not walk her dog and needed full-time care, which was very difficult for her because she has spent her whole life serving others. After a two day stay in the hospital she was fortunate to find a place that could meet her needs. Granimom moved to Villa St. Francis in Olathe, Kansas Friday afternoon September 4, where she stayed less than three months. 

A brief summary of her life:  April 16, 1918, my mother Princess Maxine Peterson was born in Coffeyville, KS. Coffeyville is located in SE corner of Kansas just north of Oklahoma. When she was 7 her family, which were farmers, moved to North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. Survived the dust bowl and the great depression. As soon as she was of legal age she returned to the United States and settled in Minneapolis where she met my dad. Always learning she completed high school and college after I did. She spend her life working in various caring and helping occupations. Many of you know her as Granimom. She took care of children, including our daughter Kelsy, almost 30 years until 2004 when she was 84.
