

Dr. Wayne E. Janda, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 7th, 2022, at Olathe Hospice House in Kansas. Memorial service will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas. Committal Service will be 1:30 pm on Wednesday, April 27th at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
Wayne was born in Chicago (Berwyn), Illinois and attended J. Sterling Morton East High School in Cicero. Upon graduation he attended college and medical school at the University of Chicago. After completing his internship at Milwaukee County General Hospital and residency at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, he became a board-certified orthopedic surgeon.
He then went on to serve in the United States Air Force and was stationed in U-Tapao, Thailand during the Vietnam war. Upon returning to the United States after honorable discharge, he went into private medical practice in San Luis Obispo then Sonoma, California before settling in Mason City, Iowa, where he and his first wife, Leonore (Norrie) L. MacIlraith raised their daughter, Laura L. Janda (Keltner).
In 1986, Wayne returned to medical military service with the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and was stationed at; Ft. Leonard Wood (Missouri), Yongsan (South Korea), and Ft. Campbell (Tennessee). During this time, he met his second wife, Linda A. (Dagley) Janda with whom he has a daughter, Julia M. Janda. After retiring from the Army, he returned to private practice in Iowa City, Iowa until he fully retired and the family moved to Waynesville, Missouri.
Outside of work, Wayne had many hobbies and interests:
• All sciences but keenly, astronomy.
• Czechoslovakian history (both of his parents were Czech).
• Model trains and railroad memorabilia.
• In addition to being a lifelong White Sox fan, he enjoyed the Cubs, Bears, and after moving to Missouri, followed the Cardinals and Chiefs along with Linda.
• Musically, he was an accomplished piano player and enjoyed listening to classical music as well as his rock and roll records from the from the 50s.
• A strong believer in charity and volunteering, he was recognized for his service to the Red Cross and other organizations.
• Most of all, he enjoyed board games and playing cards with family and friends. In his later years he had many a spirited night of Pinochle with the Mike and Maryanne O’Brien family of Waynesville.
His various catch phrases, kind spirit, sense of humor, and raucous laugh will be missed and remembered by us all!
Wayne is survived by his wife Linda; daughters Laura and Julia; and ex-wife Norrie. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Sylvia Janda, of Mason City, Iowa (previously Berwyn, Illinois).
