William E. “Gene” Haun, age 84 of Overland Park, Kansas formerly of Lenexa, Kansas passed away on January 4, 2022. His Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Johnson County Community College - Midwest Trust Center, 12345 College Blvd, Overland Park, Kansas. The Haun family would like to extend a special thank you to Colonial Village, Skilled Nursing Department Administration, Staff and Service staff for their care, kindness and compassion in the care of our father, Gene Haun. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Johnson County Community College and Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kansas.
Gene was born on August 11, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College. He was an avid sports fan. He had a passion for all sports, but especially Royals Baseball and KU Basketball. Gene almost accomplished visiting all the Major League Baseball stadiums. He also had an exceptional love for 50s music. The louder the better!
Gene’s professional career included Building, Facilities Planning, Management and Design. He had many professional accomplishments, including the Kansas Speedway and Johnson County Community College. He was one of five honored in the Hall of Fame at Johnson County Community College. Gene won two National awards on Facilities Planning and Management for his consults in St. Louis and Chicago. Gene was known as “Humble Haun”. He was accomplished in every facet of his life. He was known and respected Nationwide and loved by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton D. and Beulah (Bowman) Haun.
Survivors include his wife, Janice “Jan” Haun of the home; his son, Jeff Haun and his wife, Laura of Little Rock, Arkansas; his daughter, Julie Haun Barber and her husband, Brett of Peculiar, Missouri; four grandchildren, Michael Haun of Nashville, Tennessee, Steven Haun of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Autumn Pak (Chae) of Kansas City, Missouri and Brandon Barber (Tara) of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; and five great-grandchildren and many other family members and dear friends.
