Anita Carole Torrence, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and nationally renowned Platinum Life Master in American Contract Bridge, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, appropriately on Mother's Day.
Anita was an unforgettable presence both at the card table and in the lives of those who knew her. Anita was affectionately known in the bridge world as "Madam Queen". Anita was a fierce competitor and a beloved fixture at tournaments across the country. Her mastery of the game and bold personality made her a larger than life, magnetic, legend of the game. She was impossible to forget.
Born in 1942, Anita's greatest love story began early. She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Torrence, her high school sweetheart and partner for over 70 years. Their bond was one of enduring love, laughter, and loyalty—a true lifetime partnership that inspired everyone around them.
Anita was the proud and loving matriarch of her family. She is also survived by her two sons, Ken Torrence (Beth) and Trevor Torrence (Mindy Millard Cain), and by her cherished grandchildren: Colin (Brittany) Torrence, Tyler Torrence, Shannon Roux (Justin), Sean Torrence, Elise Torrence, and Addison Torrence. Her legacy continues through her two adored great-grandchildren, Marley and Reagan.
Anita had an uncanny ability to make anyone feel welcome. She never met a stranger. People were drawn to her warmth, her humor, and her unwavering confidence. She held her family close and loved each of them fiercely, deeply, and unconditionally.
Her spirit will live on in every shuffle of the deck, every table of laughter, and every gathering of family and friends. Anita's life was fully lived with boldness, brilliance, and boundless love.
She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to guide and inspire all who were lucky enough to know her.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am -11:30 am on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 5000 CR 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 am with interment to follow in Oaklawn Park Cemetery, Lake Mary, Florida.
One of the last things she was heard saying before she drifted off to sleep was:
"I love you all, I love you all, I love you all."
