Christopher Lewis was born October 30, 1945 to Stephen and Matilda Lewis in Guyana, South America. The last of eight children, Chris was brought up in a devout Seventh-Day Adventist home, where he and his siblings learned at an early age to develop a personal relationship with God.
In his early years, Chris was an avid cricketer. He was quite skillful and always played on the winning team. He received his early education at Huist D’ieren Primary School in the village of his birth. Chris particularly excelled in math and the sciences, while also enjoying the study of various languages including Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch.
Chris emigrated to the United States in his early 20s to pursue higher education and gained US citizenship in 1979. He went on to earn multiple post-secondary degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Long Island University and Master of Arts from Columbia University.
Chris met Paulette Duncan, a fellow Caribbean immigrant from Jamaica, in New York City during the 1980s. It took quite some time for them to develop a relationship owing to Chris’ shy demeanor. Although he was hesitant at first, he began to court Paulette after recognizing the many similarities in upbringing that they shared and being assured by members of the local church that “she is a good girl.” They married, started a family, and settled down in Central Florida by the early 1990s, achieving the American dream together.
Chris worked as a retail pharmacist for many years. He was passionate about his job, served the public well, and shared his deep knowledge of drug interactions to anyone who was willing to listen. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, and an exceptional provider who would move heaven and earth to support those he loved.
Chris was called to rest in the Lord in the early morning of November 5, 2023, due to complications from a previously undetected chronic illness. He is survived by his wife Paulette, son Dr. Christopher Duncan-Lewis, dear daughter Christina, brother, Dr. Edward Lewis, sister, Brenda Trim, and a host of nieces, cousins, nephews, and friends.
