Delores Duguid Baker

Delores "Dede" Duguid Baker passed into heaven Friday, February 28, 2025.

Born December 11, 1933, to William Harold and Fanny Garcia Duguid in Jacksonville, Florida she was a fourth generation Floridian. She graduated from Landon High School and Florida State University with an Art History degree. While at FSU, she performed with the FSU Flying High Circus which led to her photo appearing on the cover of Life Magazine.

In 1955, she married Joseph Hartford Baker, originally of Ocala, whom she met on Jacksonville Beach, where Joe was a lifeguard, as was her father a generation before. Their loving marriage lasted sixty-one years, until Joe’s passing in 2014.

An avid fan of Orlando Magic she was known in the community as the proprietor of Novel Idea Bookstore in Casselberry for 25 years. Prior to that she had been a social worker, bookkeeper, AAU Swimming Stroke and Turn Official, supporter and sometime participant in productions of the Ballet Royal of Orlando, print and commercial model, and homemaker.

Dede is preceded in death by her beloved husband and her parents.

Succeeding Dede are her sons Joseph (Jill) Baker (Winter Park), and Matthew Baker (New York City ), her daughter Miriam (Mark) King (Orlando), and her grandsons Ethan and Andrew Baker (Winter Park).

Also surviving are her brother William (Terry) Duguid of Jacksonville, and her nieces and nephew Lisa, Benjamin, Amy, and Cassie.

A private Celebration of Life will be hosted at the home of her daughter.
