My dear aunt Enid was the first adult who wrote to me regularly from all the way back to -1976. I’d write to her often and always looked forward to her replies. 

Ours was a very special relationship ill miss her forever. RIP Aunty certain of the notion. You’ll never be forgotten. Xx

I simply cannot believe a whole year has come and gone since you left us. 

I’ve been able to convince myself that we just haven’t spoken for a while. I’m reminded of the days before social media, emails and other digital communications when one or the other of us would complain “yuh owe mi aaa letta “

I can never forget my excitement as a kid, getting an airmail letter, addressed to me from my fabulous Aunt Enid.  

Always a wise word whether required or not. The voice of wisdom and experience shared through love and a desire to hold me up. I’ll always miss you, honour you and love you. God bless darling.

Remembering the laughter and joy spent with you and Drea.  I will always remember your lovely smile and still hear your laughter.  Yes, you’ve left us, but your soul and memories still live within  us.  Missing you and hope you’ll be waiting at the entrance when I get there with that lovely smile. IN MEMORIES TO AUNT ENID: Death is a road that we all have to travel.  But I never knew that you would have left us so soon leave another void  in the family and in our hearts.  

I will miss your laughter,  and talking with you on the phone for hours about  our childhood days.  You were the mastermind behind my migration to England. I will never forget the day when you and my dad picked me up at the airport.  An air hostesses escorted me and some younger children as were underage and was the tallest amongst them to the area where our parents were waiting for us. 

While we were walking towards the receiving  area, there were some men doing some work there, they stopped as I passed by and they started to whistles.  Aunt Enid must have heard the whistling as I got near to her and my dad I heard when she say, “Hey!!!Joscelyn, you troubles start already”.  When I saw my dad the first words that came out of my mouth was, dad you have shrunk (meanings that he was shorter) Aunt Enid laughed until tears were streaming down her face.  

She was such jovial and loving person I will always cherished those memorable times we had together. 
 May your soul Rest In Peace until we all meet on that glorious day.  Gone but not forgotten.

Kind, full of life, animated are just a few words I can use to describe you.
You always have a listening ear and never hesitate to give good advice and encouragement.
You were my laughing and storytelling partner as we would sit and talk for hours until we realized how much time had passed.
You were a friend, who became family.
Rest easy until we meet again, Ms Enid. 



Sadly we didn't to see each other with much frequency following her move to the USA but whenever we spoke or saw each other, she'd swear it was me who 'owed her a letter'.  Turns out she came to look forward to those letters, full of the minutiae details of life and a 14yr olds journey through adolescence, into adulthood.  She'd tell me how she'd draw up a chair, make herself a cup of tea and settle down for a good read! The life lessons she shared with me strengthened our special bond and created a special love between us.  As youngsters growing up, we lived in an era where children were seen and not heard.  Not so with my beloved Aunt Enid.  My special 'go to' adult who I was able to share secrets with.  Who was interested in me at a time when children were seen but not heard and therefore had no voice.
She will always be a part of the foundation stones that created my life,  foundations that have withstood the tests of time, some 60yrs to date.  I will love her, I will miss her for the remainder of my life.  God bless you my dear, sweet, lovable rogue, keeper of secrets, my beloved Aunt.  This is not goodbye, for I'll see you on the other side.  Rest in Eternal Peace until that day. Please give my Mum & Dad a huge hug from me.  Tell them I miss them but will see you all again, one glorious day.  All my love today and everyday. Your Nephew George. Xx

My dear, sweet Aunt Enid.  Impossible to believe your really gone but comforted by thoughts of your sweet reunion with family who've gone on before.

Aunt Enid has been a constant feature of my life.  I have no memory of a time she wasn't there......  In Derby she lived with us briefly when we lived on St Chads Road.  I remember her as an Aunt who took an interest in us as children.  

She teased my brother Phil mercilessly his entire life.  There was a plan in place that when Mum, Lyn went into labour with Phil she would stay with the older children. The cliché,  'The best laid plans' and all that.  Aunt Enid had herself a date and was getting ready to go out for the evening to celebrate her birthday when Lyn went into labour.  We can only imagine her disappointment when she had to take off her clothes and settle down for the evening in front of the TV as Phil made his appearance into the world on the very same day.  The 2 shared the same birthday.  I've lost count of the number of times I've heard her say with a beaming smile, how "Phillip mash up mi plans" with his arrival. - This gave them a special bond that was to last a lifetime.

So...... It's 1975.  My first ever trip to Jamaica.  I'm travelling with my Dad Greggy & Uncle Charlie.  During the trip we travelled to Pisgah, St Elizabeth to visit my Maternal Grandfather.  Here the story differs.....My recollection is of being told to bend down for a photograph as if milking the cow.  For years since then Aunt Enid would  'laugh me to scorn' whilst telling everyone and anyone, how George tried to milk the bull cow!  The tale became a constant whenever I saw her and forged a special bond between us.  That bond was to last right up to her passing.  Following that holiday to Jamaica, I'd write to her regularly, updating her on my life and the family events here in the UK.  She never failed to write back with her own news or the antics of her daughter Andrea.

AUNT ENID - YOU WERE MY STRENGTH WHEN I WAS WEAK AND YOU WERE MY VOICE WHEN I COULDN'T SPEAK.  WE DEVELOPED A RELATIONSHIP OVER THE LAST 50 YEARS THAT  BLOSSOMED INTO AN INSEPARABLE BOND.  DURING OUR TALK TIME WE USUALLY DISCUSS EVERYTHING, WE SPOKE ABOUT CHILD WELFARE, GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY AND THE TRUE MEANING OF AFFECTION.  I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TO NOW BUT YOUR MEMORIES LIVE ON.....

Aunt Enid Stanley - I will always remember your visits to  Spanish Town Jamaica every fortnight just to ensure that my siblings and I were doing ok.  You  always promoted education and self efficacy within  us as children and those attributes will last for our lifetime.  God bless you aunty and you will forever be in our hearts.  May your soul rest in peace as you journey on this lonesome road called death.
