Gerald Irwin Wander, age 88, of Winter Springs, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016. Jerry was born June 12, 1927 in Erie, PA and grew up in Syracuse, NY, before joining the navy to serve his country during World War Two, on the USS Coasters Harbor and other ships. He met the love of his life, Lillian Afros, in 1953, and through the next 60 years Jerry and Lily were constantly by each other’s side. Starting in the insurance business with nothing but ambition, Jerry rose to the top of his profession, becoming a CLU, ChFC, and a Lifetime Member of the Million Dollar Roundtable while he and Lily raised their three children. In 1980, the couple relocated to Florida to enjoy the sunshine, but Jerry did not slow down. Throughout his 50-year career with New York Life, he was a top producer and a mentor to other agents. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, going to the beach, and spending time with Lily, his children, and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Lillian, and by siblings Jack, Don, and Lillian. He is survived by his children, Wendy Mize (David); Karen McIntyre (Laurence), Brian Wander, and grandchildren Leah, Hannah, Rachel, and Sophia.
